Chapter 9: Deception and Rage

August 14th, 2006

It was a hot morning and being in suits to impress Lighthorn only made it worse. ” Chris, I’m not so sure we should go in there armed.” ” It’s a chance we’re just going to have to take,” said Chris. ” Its 8: 50 A.M. lets move.”

Standing in the giant factory made Chris and David look tiny. ” So good of you to come,” said a voice overhead. There standing on an iron bridge was Curtis Lighthorn grinning down at them. ” Do you have my order?” ” Of course, do you have our money,” asked Chris. ” Lets go upstairs and chat, shall we,” ordered Lighthorn. They were led into another room with carpet, bathroom, fan, window with a view, lots of paintings, and a rack of swords. ” Syther, search them, wouldn’t want any mishaps today,” grinned Lighthorn. Syther reached and grabbed both of their guns and put them on the table.

” Want to know what I hate,” asked Lighthorn. ” I hate liars, liars only cause trouble in my eyes, wouldn’t you agree…Mr. Knox?” Chris was startled and knew that they had made a mistake coming to the factory. Josef and Syther pointed their guns at Chris and David. ” Oh yes, don’t think I have forgotten about you Mr. White.” Reacting as they were trained to do, Chris and David kicked the guns out of Josef and Syther’s hands. They then started throwing punches everywhere. David was able to pin Josef onto the ground, but Chris on the other hand was having difficulty.

Out of the corner of Chris’s eyes he saw Lighthorn run off with the drugs. ” David, catch up with Lighthorn,” screamed Chris as he attempted to bard off Syther’s punches. David was able to knock Josef out and run off.

Chris pushed Syther and stopped. “My name is Knox…Chris Knox, you murdered my parents, prepare to feel my pain.” Syther smirked, ” Your father was on the verge of busting us, he knew everything, it was only a matter of time.” ” What about my mother,” screamed Chris? ” Your mother was killed as a warning to your father to stay away, when that failed I killed him as well, but I seemed to forget about you, a mistake I do not wish to duplicate.”

Chris couldn’t bear it any longer. He grabbed two of the swords that were on the rack and threw one to Syther. Syther drew his quickly and Chris drew his right after. Chris was an expert at fencing, but not anything like this. The two swords clashed and Chris drew away quickly coming into a lunge, Syther blocked this easily and tore a gash into Chris’s arm. Syther then started lashing all sorts of combos out at Chris. Chris was barley able to dodge these but found an opportunity to strike and ended up slicing Syther’s left arm. The gash made it identical to the one on the right. Chris did not stop there; he slashed at Syther’s legs and face but to no avail. Chris jumped the couch over to the window and just as Syther was lunging, moved away from the window, pinning Syther to it. Syther slashed but missed. ” This is for my parents,” Chris shouted and kicked Syther so hard that he crashed through the window.

Chris ran off to the direction that David ran off too. It didn’t take long before Chris found Lighthorn and David; David was pinned up against a wall with a gun in his face. Chris ran over to them, going to attempt to hit Lighthorn, but Lighthorn was quick to react. ” Get back!” Chris and David could only rely on their wits at this point so they didn’t do anything stupid. Chris saw an open spot and socked Lighthorn in the stomach attempting to knock the wind out of him, but the plan failed and only made Lighthorn angry. He cocked the gun and before anyone could do anything there was a gunshot. All seemed still for quite a while, Lighthorn fell to the floor and they saw Mr. Brinkley holding a gun to Lighthorn’s back. ” He’s only wounded, get a medic over here,” yelled Brinkley. ” You two all right?” ” Yeah, we’re fine,” responded David.

The police arrested Curtis Lighthorn and Josef Hudson under attempt of murder, possession of drugs and many other accounts. In the trial they both pleaded guilty under all charges and were sent to life in prison.

” Lets go home partner,” smiled David. ” Yeah, I’m good with that,” beamed Chris. ” Hey David.” ” Yeah, Chris?” ” I bet you I can beat you in a swimming race.”

” Is this a challenge,” asked David ” Because if it is, you’re on!”

Chapter 8: Career Move

August 14th, 2006

Chris Knox had been living with the Whites sense he was 15. When Chris and David were 18 they moved out. Though they went to different colleges, they always kept in touch. When they both got their masters degree they followed in the footsteps if Chris’s father in becoming undercover cops. 14 years later they are partners and work as a team, a very unique quality not many people have.

” What’s his rap sheet say,” asked Chris. ” He did time a few years back for possession,” replied David. ” Alright, lets take him down.” Chris and David won many awards for working as a team, and every once in a while an occasional great job from their captain, Mr. Brinkley. Now they were about to expand their limits, go further beyond boundaries then they ever have before.

” Knox, White, get in here for a second,” bellowed Mr. Brinkley. ” Yes sir,” said Chris and David giving him their full-undivided attention. Mr. Brinkley passed over a rap sheet for Chris and David to glance at. ” You may have heard of him, maybe not, his name is Curtis Lighthorn, he’s been running the biggest drug dealing session Cuba’s ever seen, will you two help us take him down?” ” Yes of course sir,” blurted Chris. ” Alright here it is, you two have a session with him tomorrow, 3:00 P.M. at Nixon’s, Knox your name is Jackie Jandle and White, your name is Martin Everwood.” ” You are trying to sell him a shipment of crack, he’s the man with the leading export of it, the largest in Cuba, so make him take the bait.” ‘ One other thing, DON’T FAIL,” Mr. Brinkley said staring them in the eyes. ” We won’t sir,” promised Chris.

* * *

Tomorrow came soon enough. Chris and David were positioned right across the street from Nixon’s. ” This is it, Chris, you wanted revenge and now you have a chance to take it.” Chris was paying no attention to this comment, ” There they are, let’s move,” said Chris. Nixon’s is a small bar located right off a busy highway, but doesn’t have many costumers, so naturally the only people in there were Chris, David, Lighthorn, Josef, and Syther. ” Good morning Mr. Lighthorn,” Chris said casually. ” My name is Jackie Jandle, and this is my dealer, Martin Everwood.” ” Please sit down,” hissed Lighthorn. ” We have 100 pounds of crack that we’re willing to sell at a reasonable price, if you’re interested,” said David. So Chris, David and Lighthorn then talked for a few hours before Lighthorn broke the talk. ” Meet me at the old Mills factory tomorrow at 9:00 A.M., don’t make me wait,” barked Lighthorn. With that Lighthorn, Josef and Syther walked out.

* * *

Back at the station they went over the events of the meeting. ” Then your going to go to the factory, my men will be positioned just outside, if anything goes wrong we’ll be there,” reassured Mr. Brinkley even though he was not entirely sure what would happen. ” Now you two go home and get some rest, big day tomorrow.”

Chris fell behind to share a few words with the captain. ” Sir, one of those men killed both of my parents, I want to know…” The captain stopped him there. ” I cannot decide for you what is right and what is wrong, only you can do that.” ” Yes sir,” said Chris.

Chapter 7: Back to Cuba

August 14th, 2006

It was 11:00 A.M. and they were late as it is but Uncle Arc took time to sightsee a little more. Going though security now is much more difficult ever sense 9-11 so that’s wasted more time. ” Here’s our gate,” said Chris. ” Do you boys want anything to eat,” asked Uncle Arc? ” We’re alright, Dad.” Oh how Chris longed to have someone to call Dad.

Finally 1:00 P.M. came rolling on by and they boarded the plane. Over the time elapse of the flight Chris spent most of the time sleeping. ” Chris, its not good to fall asleep while listening to an iPod,” Uncle Arc said. ” Yes sir, I know.” Out of the corner of Chris’s eye he could distinctly see a wide grin across David’s face.

* * *

” Welcome home boys!” Chris groggily stepped off the plane. ” Come on Chris, wake up,” said David. Chris just mumbled something to him. Luggage was harder to get because there had been a problem with the machine. While inside the limo ride home Chris and David talked about their future plans in becoming undercover cops together. ” It will be fun David, we’ll be partners,” Chris beamed.

The first thing Chris did when he got home was going for a nice, relaxing swim. Not too long after David joined him. Chris and David would always swim laps across the pool to see who was faster, (Chris was). ” Alright Chris, I’m going to bed, have a good night.” ” Yeah, I need my rest too,” replied Chris. They walked upstairs, said goodnight to Uncle Arc and passed out on their beds.

Chapter 6: The Night Life

August 14th, 2006

The night air was crisp and bitter as it whipped across their faces, but neither David nor Chris cared. ” It can’t be too far from here,” noted Chris. They kept walking down the streets until they found a row of nightclubs. ” First one to find A La Morta gets a quarter,” snickered David. ” Up ahead, there it is,” shouted Chris, his body seemed to be pumped with nerves of steel.

” Lets be quiet now, don’t make a sound,” whispered Chris. They advanced on to the back of the club. ” Here, this vent is big enough to squeeze through,” said Chris. When they were able to pry open the vent, Chris went in first followed by David bringing up the rear. ” Chris, we don’t even know if he’s going to be here,” hissed David. ” He will be here,” said Chris, armed with confidence.

They were faced with a choice of direction; it was either left or right. ” Should we split up,” asked David? ” No, too much noise is a problem, we’ll go with the left.” It wasn’t long before they heard voices. Chris and David moved silently forward to another vent where they could see the men talking. Chris recognized one of the men as Curtis Lighthorn, the other two men he did not know.

What caught both of their eyes the most was one of the bulky looking men with a scar on his right arm. It was not long before he spoke. ” We delivered the shipment as you requested.” ” Good Syther, now listen carefully, I have another job for you, you need to take the supply of drugs we have now and ship it to Cuba.” ” Where in Cuba,” asked Syther. ” Havana, I have created a factory there.”

David and Chris looked horrified; after all, they live in Havana. ” What factory,” asked the second man? ” It used to be the Mills old place,” responded Lighthorn. ” I know where that is,” David whispered, Chris nodded. ” Josef, what is today?” ” Thursday, sir,” replied the second man who’s name is apparently Josef. ” 14 years, in 14 years we will be the biggest and most known drug dealers of Cuba.” ” Yes,” said Syther, ” And we don’t have Knox to spoil anything.”

Chris’s face grew red, very red. ” Lets go,” is all he said. Once again in the cool, clean February air, Chris and David ran off. ” That was him, in 14 years we’re going to find a way to stop him,” yelled Chris. ” Why wait 14 years,” asked David. ” You heard Lighthorn, that’s when he will be at the peak of his career, then we’ll make him pay.”

Chapter 5: Curtis Lighthorn

August 14th, 2006

“Wake up boys, this is our only full day here, we cannot afford to waste it,” Shouted Uncle Arc. ” It’s only 10:00 A.M. though,” pouted David. Chris on the other hand had no problem waking up. ” Where to,” asked Chris. ” We could go watch the bullfighting if that appeals to you.” ” Of course it does,” Chris and David shouted together.

* * *

” There’s a lot of people here,” David noticed. ” Very good, now can you recite the alphabet,” Chris laughed. ” Stick together boys.” Uncle Arc was plowing through the crowd trying to find some seats. ” Ahh, here we are.” There sat three open seats crowded next to each other. While waiting for the bullfighting to begin, Chris noticed a man with privet security sitting in what he calls the important people section. ” Hey Uncle Arc, who’s that up there?” Chris pointed to the man. ” Why that’s Curtis Lighthorn, a very popular and wealthy man.” ” What does he do,” Chris questioned. ” He is into business lets just say,” Chuckled Uncle Arc. ” By business you mean drug dealing,” remarked Chris. Uncle Arc knew he was beat.” Well actually he is into the mining business but yes, some believe he has a large possession of Crack and sells it around the world,” whispered Uncle Arc. Chris suddenly thought of what his father said to him before he died, Spanish drug dealer…. which raised the question, ” Can I meet him,” asked Chris, even though his eyes were fixed on David. Uncle Arc laughed, ” Taking a sudden interest in him are we?” ” Well it’s near impossible to ever come near him with the security he has, unless your going to try and sell him drugs.” Chris did not know how Uncle Arc knew this information but decided against asking. ” There’s a night club he goes to every once in a while, A La Morta, where he handles some of his drug deals,” said Uncle Arc.

” Finally the fighting begins,” said a relieved David. Chris was paying no attention to the bullfighting though; he was still rolling over the possibility that maybe this Curtis Lighthorn had something to do with his parent’s death.

* * *

Back at the hotel, Chris and David went to the pool to swim while Uncle Arc packed to leave. ” David, before my father died, he mentioned something about a drug dealer.” ” So you think that this Curtis guy is related in someway,” questioned David. Chris thought for a moment….” Well there’s only one way to find out.” ” Uncle Arc mentioned something about a night club called A La Morta, where Lighthorn supposedly goes to, Should we check it out?” ” What are we waiting for,” asked David.

Chapter 4: First Night

August 14th, 2006

Sense they were going to be in Spain for a period of one full day, there wasn’t much time to waste. The minute they grabbed their luggage they were out the door, walking to a parked limo waiting for them. They sent their luggage to the hotel to add more time of sightseeing.

” Wow, it looks great,” remarked Uncle Arc. ” Without doubt it’s nice,” replied Chris happily. Uncle Arc, David and Chris picked a spot to start sightseeing. Over the course of a few hours Uncle Arc decided to call it a day sense the time was 8:00 P.M.

” I don’t know about you, but my bed is actually pretty comfortable,” Chris laughed. ” Is everything alright in here boys,” asked Uncle Arc. ” Yes everything is great,” answered David. ” Alright, I think it best if we go to bed early so we can have a fresh start tomorrow,” said Uncle Arc. ” Yes, David and Chris grinned, good idea.”

At around 12:00 P.M. David and Chris decided to check out Spain in the after hours. Overall it was pretty nice, except for the occasional Drug addict in the alleys. “Weird places, eh Chris,” smirked David. ” Oh no, nothing weird about these places at all,” Chris responded sarcastically.

As they proceeded through the streets they saw a lot of restaurants, shops and every once in a while, Chris would notice a shoplifter, wishing he could just tackle the person and demand they return the stolen goods. ” Its getting late Chris, we should head back.” ” I agree,” replied Chris. They arrived back at the hotel sometime around 2:00 A.M. where they talked for a little bit, but it wasn’t long before Chris and David couldn’t help but fall asleep.

Chapter 3: Surprise

August 14th, 2006

The next few days were rainy and bleak. Over the course of those days Chris felt as bleak as the weather. Uncle Arc knew his nephew was distraught, so he thought he would surprise him with a gift.

” A gift, what kind of gift,” asked Chris looking puzzled. ” Well I was thinking that David, you and I could go take a trip to Spain, somewhere near Madrid,” replied Uncle Arc excitedly. ” Isn’t that a bit far, I mean its over the Atlantic,” said Chris. ” Does this mean you don’t want to go,” asked Uncle Arc sounding hurt. ” No, of course we’ll go, it will be great,” piped David. Uncle Arc smiled. ” We leave on the 21st. He then said nothing more and walked away with a smile. Chris glared at David. ” Come on Chris, it will be fun, just think of the adventures we will have together.” Chris nodded clearly thinking of something else besides Spain and trailed off.

* * *

The 21st seemed to come sooner then Chris had anticipated. He had no difficulty packing his belongings into his little suitcase. ” Are we all ready,” asked Uncle Arc impatiently. ” Yes, I believe we’re all set,” replied David.

The trip to the airport seemed full of life as Uncle Arc told the boys about Spain and gave them facts. Chris was in a much better mood today, mostly because David was being cheerful. ” Alright boys, I have arranged a hotel suit, you two will share a room and I’ll be right next door if you need me,” smiled Uncle Arc. ” This is great, David,” whispered Chris, ” Now we will be able to explore Spain on our own time.” Apon arriving at the airport Uncle Arc gave $500 to each of the boys before they checked in their luggage.

After getting through security, the three of them found a place to have lunch, Vines. Uncle Arc finished lunch before the boys and seeing as though the gate was right across from where they sat, he left them alone to sit at the gate. ” What do you think we should do first,” asked David ” When we get there I mean.” ” Well we first get situated in our rooms and wait until dark to explore if that’s what you mean,” responded Chris. ” Yes, that’s what I mean,” answered David. Chris, looking for a way to change subjects, found an excuse. ” Here, lets go sit by your Dad, he looks lonely.”

As they waited by the gate for their flight Uncle Arc sat reading a Time magazine, while Chris sat on his laptop and David played his PSP. After the flight was called, Uncle Arc was the first to board the plane, then David, and Chris in the rear. ” Nice plane, very nice.” Chris took notice of the beauty of the plane before sitting down.

The flight to Spain went smooth, hardly any turbulence. David was asleep when Chris woke him and pointed out the window. ” Welcome to Spain,” said Chris. Uncle Arc Smiled.

Chapter 2: Cuban life

August 14th, 2006

It had been one year sense Chris’s fathers death and he never spoke of it, but now Chris made up his mind to follow in the footsteps of his father and become an undercover cop. Listening to his father’s last request Chris now lives with his uncle, Uncle Arc White. Uncle Arc is a very unselfish man who loves to travel. He is also a very rich man specializing in computer technology. Living in the heat of the Cuban sun made it easy for Chris to adjust, being so used to the sheer heat. Chris’s only friend was his cousin, David White.

” Uncle Arc, I’m going to head down to the pool, so if you need me I’ll be there.” Chris loved Uncle Arc’s pool, it gave him a place to think and write. Chris spend a good portion of his afternoons down there, swimming laps and just having a good time. Uncle Arc is very flexible and would let David spend as much time with Chris as he pleased. Chris loved spending time with David.

Now Chris was very adventurous, VERY adventurous. He would sneak out late at night and walk the streets seeing all sorts of exotic people. Sometimes even staying out all night, but making sure he would get home before Uncle Arc woke up. Every once in a while, David would even muster up the courage to go with Chris on his adventures.

” Alright, David,” Chris whispered, ” The coast is clear.” ” Chris, I’m not sure about this at all,” shot David ” If you’re sure of something, there is no pleasure in the mystery of finding it out,” Chris shot right back. After being safe outside Chris decided on telling David the story of his parents death and the hooded man with the scar on his right arm. ” I’m truly sorry, Chris,” said a teary eyed David. They continued to walk down the streets and Chris proceeded, ” I promised my father that one day I would find the man that murdered my Mom, go up to him and say, My name is Knox…Chris Knox, you murdered my parents, prepare to feel my pain. ” That’s powerful,” replied David. Chris blinked back tears. “…Well, should we head back?”

Chapter 1: An Unfortunate Accident

August 14th, 2006

It was a hot and humid Saturday morning in mid July. Chris loved spending time with his father, Nick. Nick is a steady but slightly nervous man, who values life and every aspect of it. You can tell from Nick’s eyes that he loves his son very much. ” You getting hungry, Chris,” asked Nick. ” Yeah a little bit,” replied Chris. Chris knew what his father had in mind, there was a restaurant that they would always go to eat, ever sense Chris’s mother died, Hudson’s, it was called, A greasy spoon located on the far side of town, but Chris never minded the long drive because it gave him time to brush up on his writing skills. “Alright, then we’ll head over to Hudson’s for a while,” Nick said.Despite usually being talkative, Chris didn’t say much on the way to the restaurant. “Something bothering you, Chris,” asked Nick. ” Anything you want to talk about?” ” No, I’m just not in the mood, you know.” Nick had always told Chris that he could tell him anything, but Nick knew something was wrong.

When they arrived at the restaurant Chris still didn’t say much. When they got a table, Nick took the opportunity to ask again if something was wrong. ” I had a dream about Mom last night, and she seemed so much different then the way I remember her.” Nick not knowing how to respond to this just nodded. ” She seemed peaceful, but with a look of concern at the same time.” Nick opened his mouth as if to say something when the waitress who came to take their order interrupted him. “I’ll have eggs and sausage,” said Chris lazily. ” And for you sir?” ” I’ll have the same thing,” Nick responded flatly. ” Tell me more about this dream, Chris.” ” She told me to tell you she loves you and I, that’s all I remember.” Nick got teary eyed and started to cry. ” I think its time I told you what really happened to your mother.”

” She was killed in a car accident, I know,” said Chris. Nick shook his head. ” She was murdered, Chris, murdered by a man with hate.” Now it was Chris’s turn to cry. ” I’m sorry I never told you, I just thought it best not to say anything, but at the same time knew I was just trying to run away.” Chris was no longer crying, he was angry, with a glean in his eyes that looked as thought he would lash out at anyone at any second.

” What’s his name,” shouted Chris. ” I don’t know,” replied Nick. ” But I do know he has a scar running down his right arm.” ” I gave him that scar to serve as a reminder of how cruel he really is.” ” Why he left me alive I don’t know.” ” I promised myself I would find the man that did it and kill him for what he has done.” “Chris when you are older I need your help,” Nick said coldly. ” Revenge,” asked Chris. ” You always say you are going to be an undercover cop just like me.” ” Answer the question,” Chris pressed. ” No, not for revenge,” said Nick. ” Then for what,” asked Chris? Nick was about to speak when this time he was interrupted by gunfire.

” What the…” Before Chris could say anything Nick told him to wait there. Chris was too excided and ran over to his father. Nick screamed something then pushed Chris off to the side. There was a hooded figure just outside who pulled a gun from his cloak and shot Nick directly in the heart. ” No,” screamed Chris. Time seemed to stand still and he ran over to his father not even caring that he was in the line of fire, but the hooded figure and the other men ran off. ” Dad,” sobbed Chris. ” Son listen to me, you are in great danger, go straight to your uncles’, don’t wait.” ” What about you, you’re going to be fine right?” Nick said nothing. ” Chris that man had a scar on his right arm. There’s a Spanish drug dealer…. ” Dad? Dad? DAD!” No response. ” I Promise you, Chris said through tears, I Promise you the man who did this will pay.” ” I Promise you.”
